SAM* Camp has been in existence for over twelve years. Teachers Linda Fowler and Holli Kizer created this camp where children might learn about nature from nature itself. This hands-on camp is designed so that campers ages five to twelve might experience nature on the Texas prairie. Science and math activities are planned so participants may not only observe animals and plants in their natural habitat, but come away from the experience with a sense of awe for the miracles that surrounds them in this, God's world. In line with being good stewards of our earth, special attention is given to environmental awareness and appreciation.
Because they have many children that return year after year, Mrs. Fowler and Mrs. Kizer have written a three-year curriculum. The only repeat activity is to watch constellations, planets, or the moon from the hot tub culminating Friday evening of camp week. Examples from the curriculum include Year A-study of dogs, cats, planets, prairie life and life in ponds. Year B-study sheep and spin sheep's wool, horses, water and pollution, constellations and wild flowers. Year C-study of owls, insects, trees, making clay from creek bottom, identify animal tracks, and the moon. This year we are in Year C.
The date for this year will be the week of June 14-18th . Camp hours are from 9:00-3:00. The camp site is located four miles west of Celina at the home of Linda Fowler. Space is limited so please apply as soon as possible. If you have further questions or need an application, please contact Linda Fowler at 972-965-8817 or Holli Kizer 214-538-5838.
